Has anyone been to Benoit for dinner recently? Do they have a prix fixe menu in the evening?

Are you referring to the address at 20, rue St Martin 75004 ?

I went for lunch last spring. I took my 12 year old daughter and even she found it to be very mediocre. In fact, she had no idea that it was supposed to be a %26quot;special%26quot; place. Overall, the main was served luke warm and the food just your standard bistro fare. The desserts were downright disappointing. Even she did not bother finishing hers. But the bill, now that was truly world class. Complete rip-off. I%26#39;ll never go back.

Thank you Travelnutty. You%26#39;re right. I did mean that restaurant, but there isn%26#39;t specific reference to a prix fixe menu for dinner on the website.

Phread, thanks for your comments. I%26#39;m looking for somewhere as a change from La Coupole and Bofinger, so I had thought Benoit would be a good idea. Can you recommend a good alternative please?

If you are looking for a %26quot;change%26quot; but are thinking of Benoit, I am guessing that you want to keep it traditional bistro, so that is what I am going to stick to with these recommendations.
Balzar - rue des Ecoles. Like the others that you mention, this is part of the Flo chain, but it is much smaller, the service more formal and maintains the naighborhood clientele. The food is beyond reproach... I love the lobster green bean salad.
Chez Georges - a bit more working class in feeling, but lots of tradition, very popular and quite good.
Le Dome - This is a good place if you want all the frenetic energy and shiny brass of a place like La Coupole or Bofinger. Lots of history, here, too and excellent fish dishes.
Chez Denise - La Tour de Montlhéry - Near Les Halles. This place is the real deal and a Paris institution. Food is good and the scene very real. Much smaller than the places you mention, but while the Balzar is rather staid and sedate, this place moves. They are known for their more traditional meat dishes, but the chef has recently put out a cook book on seafood, which appearantly he does perfectly.
Bon App%26#39;
