Paris for one night - questions

We are booked for a London stay at the end of March /early April 2007. We are staying for 7 nights. We have been going back and forth on which day trips to take and have just decided to take one of the nights and spend it in Paris

We are going to take the Eurostar

We are not going to give up our room in London for that one night so that we can leave everything there and just take a change of clothes

We arrive in London Thursday 29 March early in the morning and our flight home is Thursday 5 April in the evening at 8pm. Which day should we take to go to Paris? Is one day of the week better then others?

Any suggestions on hotels or the area to concentrate my hotel search in for our one night stay in Paris? We are looking for a room that will accommodate 4, 2 adults, 2 children age 12 %26amp; 10) or two connecting rooms. Our maximum budget for the one night hotel rate is 250-300 euros

Does anyone have any suggestions on where to concentrate our sightseeing for one full day and one half day in Paris? We have never been and are pretty much open to almost anything. Due to our limited time I don%26#39;t think we will be visiting a lot of museums, probably only one or maybe two depending on our time

Thanks

No suggestions on the hotel, but I did want to pipe in to say that many things are closed on Mondays (or so it seemed to me when we were in Paris!). Definitely make a list of the things you want to see and do your research online to make sure you didn%26#39;t miss anything. The other thing I was surprised about is that things close early (in general). There is normally 1 night/week that the Louvre or D%26#39;Orsay is open late so you might want to pick one of those nights so you can get a FULL day of sightseeing in! Just be prepared to walk! You%26#39;ll have a blast :)

If you put quad in the search box that will bring up suggestions of hotels with rooms for four.

Most (but not all) shops are closed on Sundays. Many shops, especially the smaller ones, may be closed on Mondays as well. Many museums, including the Musée d%26#39;Orsay, are closed on Mondays. Most of the museums that are open on Mondays are closed on Tuesdays, including the Louvre. The Louvre is open late on Wednesdays, the Orsay on Thursdays, neither of which is much use to you.

All things considered probably Saturday would be your best day for Paris, possibly Sunday if you are not interested in shopping, but many restaurants are also closed on Sundays.

Look for a hotel close to the river in the 1st, 4th, 5th or 6th arrondissements. Most of the sights except the Eiffel Tower and Arc de Triomphe can be easily reached on foot from those areas. The métro will get you quickly to the less central spots you might want to visit. You might use the search function on this page to search on %26quot;quad%26quot; to help narrow down your search.

Book your Eurostar tickets at www.eurostar.com as soon as you possibly can, up to 120 days ahead to get the best fares. Unless you are planning to spend most of two days in Paris you might want to consider just making this a daytrip and save yourselves the 250-300€. Even in London this can buy a decent dinner for four people! With an early departure from London and a late return you could have about 10 hours in Paris. Either way, with early booking you should be able to get RT tickets for about £220 (~$400). Use the UK as your country of origin and pick up the tickets from the station when you get there.

Good luck!
