We are planning to arrive in Paris late on Dec 1st and are leaving 3rd Dec. We would like to be central in a quiet location and value character and rustic charm over luxury and comfort. Friendly and informal atmosphere is preferred. Similar criteria for both restaurants and hotels. Not keen to pay over 200 euros per night. Can anyone advise please?

I always recommend the Hotel Lindbergh. the prices are fair, the location excellent or waling just about everywhere and the staff friendly. The decor is simple and has character, but is not particularly rustic. Paris does not have lots of places that specialize int he rustic feel, as that is more a country thing ad Paris is 100% city.

We%26#39;ve recently stayed at the Hotel Quartier Latin on rue des ecoles. The hotel next door (Familia) also looked nice.
I think in general, if you want character %26amp; rustic look for hotels in the Marais, Latin Q, Saint Germain etc. Perhaps also nr Sacre Coeur too but I wasn%26#39;t that keen on the area

oh, also if you look in my posts on this forum you%26#39;ll find info. regarding restaurants from other members which were given to me prior to my trip %26amp; my post trip conclusions

I like these two:

If you really want the Opera-neighbourhood how about the litlle Hotel Chopin ? It is located quietly and very romantically in one one the covered passages: Passage Jouffroy: Only a stones throw from the Grand Boulevards, the other covered passages with all the exciting boutiques - and most important: the big department stores Galeries Lafayette and Printemps.
I have not stayed there myself, but I have seen the hotel and it looks so cute:

I have shamelessly stolen the above from GitteK from another thread. I have been TO the Hotel Chopin...it was full for the duration and even had a waiting list which was full.
So you must fax them in advance to get a RSVP --- the # is on the website.
As for me...I%26#39;ll get there eventually.

I have stayed at the Hotel Chopin and would stay there again in a minute if I could plan far enough ahead to get a reservation - it%26#39;s charming and %26quot;old Paris%26quot; in appearance. Ask for a top floor room at the back of the building and your view will overlook the roofline of the neighbourhood - about as %26quot;romantic old Paris film%26quot; a view as you can get.
Don%26#39;t get sucked in for the breakfast - I think it%26#39;s way too expensive - and there are other places in the neighbourhood to try out.
Bon voyage.
