What is your recomendation I an From Australia and have a day to get there ( leave in morning and arrive by afternoon 4.30pm or so at airport.
The idea of driving sounds fun or am I better to catch a train or even fly ???
My considerations are the easiest cheapest best way.
being from Australia it%26#39;s hard to make the right decesion not having been to France before.
Any tips would be appreciated.
Kind Regards

Hi
It is an easy drive. A9, A61, then use michelin to reach the airport.
Around 500km, nearly all highway should take 4.5 hrs. You may even have time for a diversion to Agen or Montauban ?

Easiest is not necessarily cheapest and best is a somewhat subjective concept...
Direct trains take about 4.5 hours and they are not all that frequent. The only one that would work for you leaves M%26#39;pellier at 07:37 and arrives in Bordeaux at 12:38. You can research fares at www.voyages-sncf.com. You can only book up to 90 days ahead but you can get an idea of fares by using dummy dates if you will be travelling later than mid-February. Advance purchase non-refundable tickets known as %26quot;PREMS%26quot; will be the least expensive option. The SNCF site is not exactly user-friendly. If you want to book online this page by MorganB will help guide you through the process. http://tinyurl.com/qpdef
In terms of time it would probably be quicker to drive. The driving time would be about the same as the train, but you will still have to get from the station in Bordeaux to the airport if you take the train from Montpellier. However, given fuel costs and tolls the train wsould probably be considerably cheaper. You can research driving times and toll/fuel costs at www.viamichelin.com

Is this to do with the rugby world cup next year or is it more immediate? Im organising an RWC trip for myself and a bunch of mates out of Darwin for next year. Happy to share a few tips with you on that score. I played a couple of seasons of rugby over there and am pretty keen on the joint. The train (TGV) is probably best unless you already have a hire car. Flying internally can be expensive and there dont appear to be any direct flights between the two centres anyway. This is a useful site for finding out your flight options between European centres flylowcostairlines.org/cheap_flights/index.p… As for driving instructions www.viamichelin.com is sensational for maps and driving instructions. Its a pretty simple trip on the Autoroute from Beziers to Bordeaux, but reasonably costly in tolls and fuel. If you are an Aussie and you are going to be in Europe for more than 17 days and need a car check out www.eurolease.com.au. You can lease a brand new Citroen, Puegeot or Renault at a very reasonable rate. Hope this helps. Matt

There will be extra trains between the main cities for the RWC but I would imagine they will be pretty full as the schedule seems to require teams and supporters to charge around halfway across France between games.
And you can bet that the airlines hike up their fares!
