Senior cards for rail discounts?

Can they be purchased from the US or should you bring passport type photos to first train station on your itinerary? dave

AFAIK the Carte Sénior is only available to EU citizens and cannot be purchased in the US. If you have other information could you post a link? In any case you should be able to get a 25% discount (Découverte Sénior) on most (if not all) SNCF trains when you book online at voyages-sncf.com or in person in France without having to buy the C.S. The C.S. only gives you a 50% discount on some trains, mainly the TGV, and a 25% discount on others so it%26#39;s not that great a buy unless you are planning to make a lot of trips by TGV.

The lowest cost ticket on any longer distance trip will be a PREMS advance purchase fare. These fares are non-refundable and tickets cannot be changed once purchased. However they are less expensive tnan ANY other discounted ticket. You will need to make your bookings online as close to 90 days ahead as possible to take advantage of PREMS fares. This page by MorganB will help with the booking process: http://tinyurl.com/qpdef

No, you don%26#39;t have to be a EU citizen but i suppose you are aware that a the SNCF senior discount card is a one YEAR card and it begins to be interesting only after a good number of journeys (about 6 or 8 long distance ones) and is not valid for all type of trains/schedules.

AFAIK, you can%26#39;t buy it in the USA (SNCF won%26#39;t mail to the USA).
