Will be there early december and am looking for a place to propose at midnight. I prefer less public places like a lovely garden but with great view of tower (can be in the distance). Am an artist so if can find some place with that meaning attached, that would be great. Being at midnight though it needs to be open as well as in a safe area.
Thank you.

How about the contemporary art space at the Palais de Tokyo?
Don%26#39;t know what show they have runing at the moment, but they are open until midnight and they have a restuarant.
No garden, but they do have a terrace over looking some grafitti art. Don%26#39;t recall if you see the ET or not, but it is a short walk from Trocadero.
For a more banal options you could do light night drinks in the Cafe de l%26#39;Homme, a trendy restaurant and bar with view of the ET.
As for the garden idea... the Champs de Mars is a huge garden with lots of nooks and cranies if the darkness does not creep you out, but beware that a Paris December night can be somewaht colder than a CA Dec. night.

Hi,
Parks close with sunset, so that is no option. Phread already had some good ideas, but you can see the Eiffeltower from many places in Paris. I could imagine a proposal on Pont Alexandre III as romantic too...

Thanks for the help!
I%26#39;m definitely aiming for some outdoor venue rather than an indoor one. I%26#39;ll make sure we%26#39;re both dressed really warmly. :)
For the Champs de Mars, how is it in terms of safety at night?
Are all Parks closed with sunset? I like the bridge idea as well but is it a very publicly busy bridge? I%26#39;m really hoping for something nice, quiet, romantic outside which is safe at night but doesn%26#39;t have a lot of people going by. I am hoping for a more personal and private moment.
In terms of the boat trips, what%26#39;s your thoughts on those? Do any of them do one that late at night and do not charge an arm and a leg?
Thanks for all your help! :)

Back around the %26quot;backside%26quot; of Notre Dame (at the tip of the Isle de la Cite) is lovely with Notre Dame lit up, and very quiet but safe at night.
Also scout out the bridges that cross to Isle de la Cite and Isle de St. Louis, lovely and lit up at night.
In December, the boat rides will be with you sitting inside, not a proposal setting, trust me.
We stayed near the Champs du Mars last time we were there and walked through it every night back to our flat (with little kids in tow). It is DARK at night, and can be quite muddy if it just rained (plus dog doo doo) but it is safe and of course the Eiffel Tower is lovely. Remember that the Eiffel Tower %26quot;sparkles%26quot; for the first 10 minutes of the hour at night. The view from the Trocadero side might be equally lovely without stumbling through the mud in the dark???
You might want to have it in your pocket, and wait until things are just right.

From a woman%26#39;s perspective, I like the bridge over the Seine idea - just don%26#39;t drop the ring!
The bridges leading to Ile St Louis/Ile de la Cite are very quiet at night, and very, very romantic.

I like the bridge on the Seine idea suggested by JaneS and you can combine it with Mr Debu%26#39;s back of Notre Dame idea by making the bridge either the Pont de l%26#39;Archeveche from the Latin Quarter to the area at the back of ND or the Pont St Louis between the islands and you will often have a busker to provide background music.

%26lt; I am hoping for a more personal and private moment.%26gt;
So romantic!!! She%26#39;s sure to be swept off her feet!
One of the bridges mentioned would be soooooo romantic and if you choose the right moment, private, too.

Thank you all for the great suggestions! It is truly a big help in figuring things out. :)
Of all the ideas I%26#39;m definitely leaning now towards the bridge idea. I liked the idea of being by the water too while having an incredible view and completely see the issues of the boat idea during the winter. Thanks for that one DrDebu. :)
I am definitely planning on doing it between 12am and 12:10 when the Eiffel Tower is doing it%26#39;s sparkling show. The reason for midnight is that it%26#39;s the start of the day of the year that I%26#39;ve been planning for and there%26#39;s something magical to me of doing it right when the day begins.
We don%26#39;t have to be super close to the tower but I definitely want a great clear view of it from whichever bridge we go with.
I love the idea that the two bridges (Isle de la Cite and Isle de St. Louis) are lit up at night. What%26#39;s the view like from them? Can the tower be seen clearly? What else can be seen from each?
I%26#39;ll definitely be very careful not to drop the ring janesatelier :) but I won%26#39;t be surprised if my hands are shaking. ha ha ha. :)
Faux, would a busker be out at midnight? Kind of a neat idea for some atmosphere. :)
And thanks Aude! I sure hope so! She%26#39;s an amazing woman and I want this to be a very special memory for her which I know it already is due to the nature of it but you know what I mean... :)
Thanks all of you. I appreciate all of your help so very much.

These are not bridges but the two islands in the Seine at the center of Paris. Notre Dame cathedral is on the Ile de la Cité, the Berthillon ice cream shop on the Ile St. Louis — among other places. None of the islands%26#39; bridges have a great view of the Eiffel Tower.
Probably the best bridge with a view of the Tower would be the Pont Alexandre !!! but the problem with it — and most of the other bridges from which you can see the E.T. — is that it carries heavy traffic even late in the evening.
Maybe the pedestrian-only Pont des Arts. If you face upstream you%26#39;ll have the Île de la Cité and Notre Dame cathedral in front of you, the façade of the Louvre on your left (how much closer to great art do you want to be?), and the gilded dome of the Institut de France on your right — no wet, muddy feet and no cars honking their horns at just the wrong moment or noisy bikes or buses spoiling your beautifully prepared declaration of undying love. But no view of the E.T. to speak of...
But you%26#39;d have a few good places very close by to celebrate with a glass of bubbly — perhaps L%26#39;Écluse on the Quai des Grands Augustins — or to drown your sorrows (but that ain%26#39;t gonna happen) which you won%26#39;t on P. A. !!!...

PS: All the bridges and the major historic buildings along the Seine are beautifully illuminated at night, including the Louvre, the Institut de France and Notre Dame cathedral.
There is often an accordion player on the pedestrian only bridge linking the two islands behind the cathedral but I think he will probably have gone home to a warm bed by midnight, especially in December...
