I saw both these hotels on the net and like the look of both of them. I was wondering if anyone has experience of either of them? I wasn%26#39;t sure about location. Which is more central? And near to restaurants, bars, etc ? (but not too near, so it%26#39;s quite quiet as well...)
Thanks in advance.

Ferrandi is on the village-esque rue du Cherche Midi. Lots of restaurants and cafes on that end of CM with some interesting shopping (consignment shops, 1930%26#39;s antiques, house goods and high end design). It gets quiet fairly early and most of the restaurants are closed on the weekend. A couple of blocks N. of the hotel the street becomes the #1 shoe shopping area of the city and is the home to Poilane, a famous bakery.
It is a healthy walk from the hotel to St Germain, Luxenbourg and the rue du Bac neighborhoods. A short wak to Montparnasse.
St Placide and Vaneau are probably the closest metro stations, although it maybe closer to Montparnasse and Duroc. It is a block between Sevres and Renne, both of which are well served by local buses.

Have you looked at the reviews of these hotels on this site? Just plug in the names in the search box on the upper left of the page.
phread has given you the lowdown on the location of the Ferrandi. The Hôtel de l%26#39;Élysée is on the other side of the river, a short walk to the Madeleine, pl. de la Concorde, Champs-Élysées, Orangerie and Jardin des Tulieries. The neighbourhood is fine if that is what you are looking for, but your attitude to your neighbours might be a function of your politics. The hotel is just round the corner from the Palais de l%26#39;Élysée, whose current tenant is a certain Jacques René Chirac. At least that means that you will be enjoy round-the-clock police protection during your stay...
I%26#39;d prefer the Ferrandi if location is the only criterion. Certainly you will have a wider selection of affordable restaurants and cafés within a short walk and in general IMO a livelier ambience during the daytime.

Between these two particular hotels then I would choose the Ferrandi. However, I do not care for either one%26#39;s location personally. While the Ferrandi is in the 6th district, it%26#39;s not in that part of the 6th that I prefer personally.

The Ferrandi is certainly off the beaten path and more for travelers who like to stay in residential neighborhoods, not so much in the touristy ones.
That said, it is really only a block or two from tourist central, so it will depend on the kind of traveler you are.
