My wife and I plan to spend a week in Paris before coming down to Les Arcs for a week. We want to do day trips to Cannes, Nice, and ?, but want to stay in France.
1) Any suggestions in terms of taking a train from Paris down to Les Arcs? Recommend buying a Eurailpass?
2) Any suggestions to taking day trips from Les Arcs? Bus? Train? Cost?
We are not skiers or hikers.
Thanks.

A little bit confused. There are two Les Arcs. One in the Alps which I assume you do not mean as you are not hikers and one in the Var in the South of France. Can you confirm that you mean the second one? If so it is a little off of the main tourist route so how did you decide on it?
If you can give us some more information we will try to help.

We are going to Les Arcs 1850.
I believe that it is between Toulon and Cannes.
Thank you.

I%26#39;m afraid you have made a bit of a mistake and confused two places. Arc 1850 is near Bourg-St-Maurice in Savoie which is way up in the Alps not far from the Italien border. It is about 4.5 hours drive via Italy to Cannes.
I think you want to go to Les Arcs in the Var which is just off of the A8 motorway as you say between Toulon and Cannes, north of St Tropez.
I suggest you have a look at a map of France to see what I am talking about. Unfortunately France like many other countries have several towns of the same mane but in different departements.
I hope this has helped you or at least stopped making a mistake.

Sorry typo should have said same name.

Sorry just re-read your last post. You say Arc 1850. Well near Bourg-St-Maurice in the Alps you will find Arc 1600, 1800, 1950 and 2000. Is it one of those that you have booked?
Down in the South of France in the Var you will find Les Arcs it is a little town.
I have not heard of anybody talk about Arc1850.

So sorry. You are correct. It was Les Arc 1950, near La Plagne. Closer to Switzerland.

OK thanks.
So you are nowhere near the South of France. For day trips to Nice, Cannes that would be impossible.
You are also way up in the mountains and if you are not a hiker I would suggest not the best place to be. Will you have a car? I ask because before you can go anywhere you must get back down from the mountain. This is just over 10 miles down a twisty mountain road. There are free little shuttle buses that go between the various Arcs. They run from 7.30am until 7.30pm. You could take one to Arc 1600 and then go down on the Funicular to Bourg. From there you can take trains and probably buses along the valley. However Bourg is the end of the train line so not so much scope. Similarly by road unless you want to go to Italy or other high mountain resorts you have to backtrack along the valley road all the time. Perhaps you would like to look at the web-site www.lesarcs.com. Click on the British flag and then on the summer version to see what is available.
If you are not a hiker and you want to be in the mountains you might want to look at somewhere in the valley. Perhaps Annecy, Chamonix or Megeve. All these offer more to do for the non-hiker and are easier to get around.
I hope that helps.
Hope that helps.

JBart,
Thank you for all of your comments. Without them, my wife and I would have gone to the wrong place and you know the rest.
Based on your comments, I have suggested to my wife, that we bag Les Arcs. She may just want to go to Paris (or?).
We had recently watched the %26quot;My Year in Provence%26quot; BBC series and loved it. So we were looking forward to similar %26quot;adventures%26quot;.
Again, thank you for your insight and kindness.

I%26#39;m glad you have given up with Arc1950, not what you were looking for.
However why not Paris and Provence. Easy to reach by train and there is a wealth of suggestions out here on what to do. To whet your appetite read on the Provence forum by Zappers the third part of her holiday %26quot;I%26#39;m in love......%26quot;
You still have plenty of time to find just the right holiday for you both.
Judy
