We will be staying in the paris suburb of Vincennes in Dec. for two weeks. The metro station (Chateau de Vincennes) is a long walk from the hotel. If we take a bus (five minutes to metro station) can we also use the bus ticket for the metro? If the answer is no this would mean eight tickets for every return trip to Paris. Should we buy a pass? Any tips re this area sush as restaurants etc would also help.

You can%26#39;t use the same ticket (and if you take 2 busses you need a ticket for each bus) - in such a case a pass is a good buy.

There are no transfers between buses and Metro (as there are between different Metro lignes, within the same station)....nor between buses or bus routes. You will need a new ticket each time you board a bus. Depending on the specific days of the week of your stay and lengthof your stay, you may be better served with one of the various public transportation pass options--weelky CARTE ORANGE (valid from FIRST TRAIN, Monday AM until LAST TRAIN Sunday PM), one-calendar-day MOBILIS pass or possibly a multi-consecutive-day PARIS VISITE pass (PV%26#39;s seldom a good deal..but there are exceptions). If your hotel is within a five minute walk from the CHATEAU de VINCENNES Metro (ligne #1) station or VINCENNES RER (%26#39;A%26#39; ligne) station, then all you will need for all of your public transportation requirements within Paris (RER, Metro, Bus, Tran, Funicular Noctilien Bus) will be a pass valid for Zones 1-2.

There is a WEEKLY Metro pass you can buy for about 15 Euro. It lasts one week and you can come and go into the metro stations any time of the day with that one pass, which you hold onto all week. You can also leave the metro and use the bus on the same pass all week. It%26#39;s worth the money if you plan on using the metro and buses all week to get around.
ENJOY!

Thanks for the replies everyone - By the weekly pass JohnnyM do you mean the Carte Orange? I%26#39;m aware of this thanks to KDSAIL but you must buy this by the preceeding Wed. - we arrive on a Fri. hence cannot use this pass until the second week in Paris. I have another question re Versailles. We are going for two days - when we buy the RER ticket and chateau pass at a station do we have to make them aware that we are returning the next day and we also intend to visit the chateau the second day . We plan to just walk around the first day and not have to rush our visit.

If you are arriving in Paris on a Friday you can buy a Zone 1-2 CO (16€) as soon as you arrive and begin using it on Monday morning. It will be valid through the following Sunday when you can buy another coupon for your second week. For your first weekend Zone 1-2 Mobilis Passes costing 5€50 will be your best option for any days you are travelling to Paris, probably cheaper than carnets in the long run. If the weather is decent though you might want to spend at least one of those days exploring the Bois de Vincennes.
AFAIK the Versailles pass is only good for one day. You cannot spread it over two. However, access to the grounds is free every day during the winter, so you could perhaps visit the palace and the other buildings on one day and stroll the grounds on the other.

Thanks for this info Irish - I went back and reread the threads on this topic and of course I was wrong. This is great news.
