Restaurant advice

I am travelling to Bordeaux on the 28th November and staying with family for a few days - I would like to give a present of a voucher for dinner for 2 in a very nice restaurant - any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

It oulw be great if I could contact the restaurant in advance and they could send me on the vouchers

For a gift to a very nice restaurant, you would want Le Chapon Fin:

There are several other good restaurants in town, and I%26#39;m sure that others on this forum could furnish other suggestions (as could I), but for a gift you%26#39;ll want to offer something special, and Le Chapon Fin with its Michelin-starred kitchen, its decor, and its history is Bordeaux%26#39;s special occasion restaurant.

Dear DMJ,

Could you suggest any other good restaurants around Hotel de la Presse, a nice buzzy place for a Saturday evening and a Sunday lunch, for 2 girrls (40 Yrs)?

thanks very much

For Saturday night, try Café Gourmand at 3 rue Buffon, right next to the Marché des Grands Hommes. Sunday lunch would be a good time to go to the Place du Parlement and try the restaurant that%26#39;s on the corner of the rue de Pas Saint Georges. (Sorry, the name escapes me just now, but it%26#39;s across the street from the wine shop Cousin et Cie.) It%26#39;s large and airy and has great bread and sandwiches, among many other good dishes.

Dear DJM, thanks very much for your dining suggentions.

Another question if you don%26#39;t mind - any recommendations for supermarkets near the Hotel de La Presse, mainly to buy cheese and wine? Thanks again.

The closest supermarket would be the Champion situated on the lower level of the Marché des Grands Hommes. However, for cheese you might want to check out Jean d%26#39;Alos, a master cheesemaker who has Bordeaux%26#39;s finest cheese shop. It%26#39;s located just next to the Marché des Grands Hommes at 4 rue Montesquieu.

Would it be Restaurant Karl you are trying to think of on Place du Parlement?

|||

That sounds about right. Thanks for filling in the blanks.

|||

Thanks very much DJM and LadyWanderer.

You%26#39;re welcome Baby2 - Restaurant Karl is great by the way, I was there in March of this year with a group of 6 friends and we all loved it. Hope you enjoy Bordeaux - we certainly did !!
