Advice on a large gite

Hello, I%26#39;m not having much luck in tracking down a gite for 6 adults and 2 young children in the Alsace. Ideally somewhere in striking distance of Eugisheim, kayersberg, Ribeauville etc.

Anyone suggest the best places to look.

Many thanks.

We rented a gite for 4 adults and 2 kids http://www.gite-legrand.fr/visite.htm. It was perfect. One of the best houses we have rented in europe. Clean, well kept, and great for kids-has play equipment. The rates can%26#39;t be beat- 550.00 euros a week in high season! Its north of Ribeauville half way between Strasbourg and Colmar. We found it to an ideal location to see lots of Alsace. The village is really small, only a small convenience market, but very charming. The house has small stream out back, nice patio furniture. Lots of kids in neighborhood. My son struck up a football game with them even though he didn%26#39;t speak french!

For what it%26#39;s worth, don%26#39;t count out places on the plain. They can be bigger (and cheaper) than gites on or near the Route du Vin. The same (depending on the time of year) can sometimes apply to those higher up in the Vosges - as long as you don%26#39;t mind trekking up and down towards the Bonhomme every day.

A plus point of somewhere on the plain (near Marckolsheim perhaps) is that you are still close to the wine villages but you are also close to the river, with easy access to Breisach, Kaiserstuhl and (dare I say it) Eurpoapark.

If you%26#39;re thinking of going during wine harvest peak time it%26#39;s worth remembering that the Eguisheim / Turckheim / Kaysersberg / Riquewihr / Ribeauville axis can get very busy. However if you go just a few miles south (eg Gueberschwihr) or North (eg Bergheim) it can be much quieter - and that especially applies if you go southwards.
