baggage allowance

Hi all,

I will fly with United Airlines from San Francisco to Paris, with a transit in London for 2 hours. I am wondering whether my checked luggage will be transfered automatically in London. The flight from London to Paris will be operated by BMI (although I bought the whole ticket from United Airlines only).

The baggage allowance for the flight from SFO to LHR is 2 pieces of 23kg each, but the allowance for the flight from LHR to CDG is just 20kg. If I have 2 pieces which exceed 20kg, will this cause any problem for me ?

Thank you.

Nope. You%26#39;ll get the transatlantic allowance on the short flight because it was all ticketed together.

BMI is a member of the %26#39;..STAR ALLIANCE..%26#39; of airlines %26#39;..partnered..%26#39; with UAL....so you checked baggage will be checked directly through to your outbound BMI LHR-CDG flight. Baggage allowances will be the same.

The caveat to all this is;

They may not check your bags through to Paris unless you ask them to - you do have to ask, you cannot rely on them making the right decision. Even then, dont take it for granted, and check the baggage tag to make sure it says CDG.

I once had my bags checked from Brisbane (Australia) to Hong Kong, even though I asked for them to be checked all the way to London.

We checked luggage at LAX on Delta on Nov 16. We had a short layover in NYC an then a flight to CDG on AF from NY. Luggage was supposed to be checked all the way to CDG.

Got to CDG and our laggage was not delivered to us for 5 days.

I hate to mess with carrry on luggage, and with all of the new restrictions, I figured why bother, so I had only the things I needed for comfort on the flight.

So there we were in Paris with no clothes and no coat. No make-up, shampoo, deodorant, hairspray, ect.

To make matters worse we were staying in an apartment so we had to sit there and wait for the luggage day after day. It really put a damper on our trip. We begged them to call our cell phone but they said they could not. So we were stuck.

Be sure to bring some clothes in your carry-on. This is a lesson I learned the hard way and I%26#39;ve been traveling this way for years. I did go to Monoprix and get underwear and toiletries and a jacket after the 2nd day. The sitting around waiting was a real bummer. If your luggage gets lost and there is someone that can take delivery of it then that helps. Unfortunately, that was not the case where we were staying. AF kept promising delivery and we kept waiting . What a mess.

From now on I will try to avoid flights involving connections.

The answer is in your first sentence............%26quot;supposed%26quot;

When you check your bags in they give you a %26quot;security%26quot; tag (usually its stuck on the back of your ticket) that matches the details on the label on your bag and gives you the consignment number, destination etc etc. (I dunno HOW it%26#39;s a security measure - I have never been asked for proof the bag I am carrying out at the otehr end is mine - anyway, I digress.)

ALWAYS check the destination shown on the label is the one youre going to. Dont assume they got it right - dont even assume that because you asked them to check the bags all the way through that they have done it. The destination label should show the airport you are picking your bags up at - if it doesnt, get them to change it, because that is the airport at which your bag will be going around and around the luggage carosel.

Your travel insurance should cover you for immdiate requirements if the bags DO get lost, but touch wood, my bags have always arrived where (and when) I did. I turn into the comic book N@zi at check in - all polite and smiles and charm.......but really REALLY determined that they do things my way.
