Ballet Dress Code?

Hello, I am planning on going to the Opera Bastille with my girlfriend for their New Year%26#39;s Eve ballet performance of Coppelia. While on a normal evening, I am sure I would be comfortable in smart casual, the website does say %26#39;Evening Dress%26#39; and am wondering what precisely that entails. Will a tuxedo be required or a nice suit and tie be sufficient? It does seem to be one of their %26#39;special%26#39; evenings (the tickets are certainly more expensive). Any advice would be much appreciated.

If the website says Evening dress, I would dress accordingly... even more, because it is New Years Evening.

If you have a tuxedo, fine; if not, a dark suit, white shirt and tie will probably be okay ...

Agree with Shopgirl - tuxedo (dinner jacket ?) would be preferable, if you own one - or else dark suit with very white shirt and tie.

New Years Eve calls for the big party dress - doesn%26#39;t it ?

Lucky you, Tanagan. I%26#39;m sure the performance will be beautiful.

yes new year ballet is more expensive but that is exactly the same ballet than the other days I go very often to see ballet in opera bastille (or garnier) and always with jeans and baskets!! as there are many people who come to see ballet because they love it and not because they want to be watches

In france you can dress casual nealy everywhere in public show; I never been to see a ballet on New Year %26#39;s Eve but be sure that nobody would look at you in a strange way if you are smart casual and I thing that many people would be dressed like that

Gitte -

I%26#39;m going to be attending a wedding in London on 30 December with an evening reception and then a gala on NYE. Can i just pack one dress for both and would the gold sheath be acceptable? The full-skirt ball gown is such a pain to pack!

(Jeez, men have it so easy. All we have to worry about is whether we need a DJ or just a dark suit...)

Hi Emma -

It%26#39;s %26quot;of course%26quot; NOT %26quot;ofcause.%26quot; (I know. Who cares?)

|||

I know rover I know, its us young people, MSN english, even my oxford friends spell like that over the net, sad but true=)

|||

%26gt;%26gt;%26gt; even my oxford friends spell like that over the net, sad but true=) And this was a long verison usually I write coz:) %26lt;%26lt;%26lt;

Say it ain%26#39;t so, Emma! Your Oxford friends too? Well, there goes the English language, the Empire, the Queen (God bless her...) and all that is true, right and holy...

Perhaps if you usually write %26quot;coz%26quot; when you mean %26quot;of course%26quot; you are confusing %26quot;of course%26quot; with %26quot;because.%26quot; I could understand %26quot;coz%26#39; as an abbreviation for that...

Irish ! I would bring some velvet/chiffon/satin combination AND a grammar book........ What do you suggest we do about the youngsters ?? It is the same thíng in every language, Danish included. Tsk, tsk, tsk - to what is this world coming ? (please notice, that I did NOT use a preposition to end a sentence .... with...)
