Car rental from Paris

My husband and I will be traveling to France this month and need car rental information. We will be landing at CDG in the AM and staying one night in the Latin Quarter. Leaving the next morning for Chemere (near Nantes) for two nights and then on to our rental house in the Loire Valley (near Tours) for a week. My first inclination was to take the train to Nantes and get a rental car there but my concern is the trip back to Paris. We have a 11am flight out of CDG and there are no trains early enough out of Nantes to get to the airport on time. Considering driving to and from Paris - any suggestions?

The least streeful way would be to catch the early TGV direct from Le Mans to CDG. There may be an early train from St Pierre des Corps (tours) to CDG, but as usual the SNCF site isn%26#39;t working or making any sense. Someone who uses Internet Explorer may have more luck.........

Trying to get to CDG by car in time to check in for an 11.00 flight (without getting ulcers from worry) would mean leaving Tours at about 3.00am

If you go thru AutoEurope make sure the Vendor is not EuropCar and do not rent from them .... They are dishonest ... I am still trying to get paperwork from them and /or AutoEurop and this has been going on for over 4 months! (and we rented 6 months ago!)

I have rented many times from AutoEurope and never had a problem until they provided service from this vendor!

Do not worry about driving in France it is easy, good signs, and you have freedom to see everything you want.

We drove back from Loire the day before we left CDG and stayed close to airport and dropped off our car there. It was very easy and nice.

Do you intend to drive directly from Nantes to CDG the same day? That IMO is too much of a drive especially when you have to arrive early to the airport.

Whats wrong with Europcar? I have rented from them at least 10 times and never had a problem. I did have a time when they incorrectly charged me for fuel but it was refunded within 24 hours of my call. I like their cars because they tend to be newer than say Hertz or Avis rent.

Gee, I was surprised to read of problems with Europcar too. I%26#39;ve used them maybe 4-5 times and never had a problem.

|||

The only problem I have ever had with Europcar is (ironically) that they upgrade me whenever I want a small car............

Apart from that we get on famously

%26quot;Morgan...%26quot; I posted this On the Thread %26quot;Car Rental For North Eastern France%26quot; .... Just to save my self typing time Here is a copy of the problems we have with them! Yes,you are right they have very nice cars but so do other vendors that Autoeurop deals with. I rented from Hertz one time for 6 weeks in France and paid twice as much compared to Autoeurop prices!

  We rented from Autoeurope for the fourth time a long term rental.

  This past summer the vendor for Autoeurope was Europecar.

  We have had nothing but problems with this company! I ordered the car in Dec 2005 and paid 1/2 for deposit ( auto/ac). When we arrived at the office we had to wait 3 and a half hours for the rental car! We were lied to constantly! We were given an upgrade and told we would not be charged for it. We were overcharged ( $600.00) and charged for fuel fill up dispite the fact we hada gas receipt and a full tank when we brought back the car! The car return man would not sign our contract that it was full tank he said I had to go to the desk inside the airport. That car rental person refused to call and verify with the return guy and sign the contract that the tank was full! Total RUN-A-ROUND

  I have been dealing with disputes and problems since August.

    Autoeurope will no longer tell me what is going on because the problem is in dispute with our credit card company. Europe car will not comunicate with us only with Autoeurope!

  The other three times we rented from Autoeurope we had no problems at all! I would say be careful with Europecar. I just read in one of my travel magazines about others with trouble with that company. %26quot;

These problems are still not resolved ... they are still in dispute! They will not communicate with us , Autoeurop, or our credit card company! That is my problem with them!

As far as I can tell there are no direct TGVs from either Tours or Le Mans that will get you to the airport eary enough. The first TGV from Tours to Paris arrives at Montparnasse at 07:30. With a taxi from Montparnasse you might be OK but you%26#39;d be cutting it a bit close IMO.

If I were you I would drive to somewhere close to CDG — perhaps Senlis — and spend your last night there. If you rent from one of the major companies through AutoEurope (or whomever) you can pick your car up in Nantes if that is your preference and drop it at CDG without penalty, other than the usual airport drop-off fee.

I am sorry you are still having trouble getting your problems with Europcar resolved. I too have used them many times with nary a problem.

Hi:

We stayed at Fontainebleau our last night and then drove to CDG. The traffic was horrendous. We were definitely biting our nails at 1:00 pm, when we figured there would be little traffic. I%26#39;d imagine for an 11:00 am flight, you%26#39;ll want to arrive at least by 9:00 am - right in the middle of rush hour. Yikes! Either leave yourself plenty of extra time or just avoid the headache and stay near the airport the night before your flight. (PS: driving is easy and convenient, but gas is much more pricey than in the states. Budget accordingly.) Good luck!

Irishrover: Question for you..... When we picked up our car rental from Autoeurope vendor in Paris ( town location) and then a couple months later dropped it off at the airport they did not charge any airport drop off fees.

I had read in one of my travel magazines that they were going to change that and start charging a fee whether one picked up and returned at the airport. (I can%26#39;t remember but there were a few other things they were considering changing.)

Was that your experience? I just wanted to know if that is the case now? Thanks for your kind remarks. My credit card company told me that they would try again to request information from the vendor and if they do not respond within a certain time period they will not allow the disputed charges.

You are right we have use Autoeurop many times and always found them great to deal with just this first time with Europcar vendor have we ever had any problems.
