I was wondering how expensive airport taxis are? We have read that our hotel (nr Eiffel tour) is an hour away from Charles de Gaul.
Also we are going for a romantic weekend in early December and are probably going to be going out to bars and clubs in the evening. Are there any Trendy bars/clubs near the Eiffel tower and is there anywhere which is unsafe for tourists at night ?
Also is it easy to get taxis at night or is it best to use the metro?
And can anyone sugest a special place to have a romantic typically French meal which will not cost more than 40 euro per person?
thanks in advance.

Oh and by %26quot; is anywhere unsafe%26quot; i ment Bars/clubs not general area i know there has been a lot of discussion that!

Hi!...I%26#39;m only able to answer your airport taxi query and even then I get the impression some people are slightly sceptical. In June a taxi from CDG to the Marais cost us 45e including tip- maybe we didn%26#39;t tip enough!!! This was for three people plus luggage. Enjoy Paris, who wouldn%26#39;t it%26#39;s a wonderful, wonderful city we can%26#39;t wait to return.

Hi. About the taxi... I was in Paris in July 2006 and we took a taxi from CDG to our hotel about 40min away. The total cost for four people plus luggage was close to 80 Euros. After that we decided to ride the metro which was much quicker and cheaper.
As for food we had a hard time finding a good cheap place to eat (very hit and miss). However, one of our favorites for a special night out was dinner and boat cruise on the Seine.
Enjoy!

It%26#39;s probably too late to change, but the Eiffel Tower area is arguably one of the deadest ones in Paris at night. So you%26#39;ll have to resort to public transport (safe even until it closes, 1am) or to taxis (nearly impossible to find on w/e nights), or to the Noctilien (night bus) system. From the ET, you could walk to some bars/clubs in the Champs Elysées area, with either a suburban/tourist or rich kid/advertising executive clientele. The best night life is to be found either in the Marais or Odéon for casual café hopping, in the Bastille/Oberkampf area for hipper clubbing and crowd.
As for the judgment on food by our Canadian friend, I would take a huge pinch of salt on the comment of anyone who thinks that the food at the bateau mouche is good value...

thanks for that. We are really happy with the hotel we have booked so dont want to change but we are going from Sunday 3rd DEC to maybe it wont be as hard to egt a taxi on a week night? Do you just flag them down or are there designated taxi stands where you wait?
I think we may use the metro as there is a stop very close to our hotel.
Also how much should we tip taxis?

Hi
Taxi would cost you about 45 euros including extra for bags, tip etc. Alternative would be to take the airport bus to Etoile and from there the metro.
Eiffel Tower area might be quiet but a good place to live in. A lot of buses and metros that will take you around town. No area in central Paris %26quot;unsafe%26quot; since there is so much people moving around most of the time.

No, on week nights there is no problem to get a taxi. You can flag one down if you see one, but I%26#39;ll give you a tip so that you avoid waving like a madman in the middle of the street like all tourists do: only cabs with their top light TOTALLY LIT are available; the ones with the top light off except for a tiny discreet orangey light are busy or booked (so don%26#39;t get mad if you don%26#39;t see any passenger, the cabbie in on his way to %26quot;load%26quot; one). Having said that, Parisians normally gather around taxi stands to pick up a cab. There is no tipping to speak of, you just round up to the next euro, the second next if you%26#39;re really happy.

We took the RER from CDG 1 to Gare du Nord (€8.05 each) then a taxi from Gare du Nord to our hotel in Montmartre (€10 total). The RER trains run every 15 mins or so in the daytime. The taxi queue at Gare du Nord was quite long but loads of taxis kept turning up so we go to the front pretty quick.
Took the metro everywhere, day and night, and it was perfectly safe. Only exception was when we descended the Eiffel Tower at the end of a heavy sightseeing day, when we were exhausted and succumbed to a taxi - there is a taxi rank right next to the tower (on the river side).
