Dollar Weakens!!

This happens every time I go - no kidding. We leave in 3 weeks, don%26#39;t expect dollar to improve until after my return (mid Jan). Sorry everyone :(

BBC Nov 24th,

%26quot;Dollar loses ground against euro %26quot;

%26quot;The dollar has plunged to its lowest level against the euro since April 2005 amid concerns for the US economy.

The euro surged to $1.30 against the dollar, with many other currencies following suit.%26quot;

Hi Jane

Why is it that I find it VEEERRRY hard to feel deeply sorry for someone who will be going to Paris in mid December and who is not returning until mid January ???

You could always bring a Santa-costume and a bell to ring with and find a place outside Galeries Lafayette where you could collect a few centimes.......

:o)

|||

I feel your pain. We%26#39;ll be there at the end of December, with growing teenagers in tow.

And the date of my last trip?...April 2005!!!!

|||

and Im so happy! Im going to central america just in time! Dollar dropping every day, those hotels getting cheaper and cheaper! And the euro is going down to compared to the swedish crona! I will shop until I drop=D

|||

Well, if you%26#39;re going to spend 100€ a day while you are in Paris, this %26quot;plunge%26quot; in the value of the US$ will cost you less than 1€ a day.

Now if you compare today%26#39;s $1.30 to 1€ with the ~$0.90 of just a very few years back...

|||

Oh the heady days of sub $1 Euros but you are correct to look at it as the $1 per day Rover. If I ever go to Paris to be frugal then my daughter has written instructions to shoot me.

For me at least, I go to Paris because it is Paris regardless of the prices. With a pocket full of Euro cash and robust credit card or two, I do exactly as I want. Go where I want, see what I want, eat what I want and buy what I want and worry about the expenditure after I get home.

The good thing is that after a few trips I have exhausted the touristy trap stuff and I have redefined what it is that I really %26quot;want%26quot;. I found that when I went to a different location every vacation I ended up thowing tons of cash at the touristy stuff and ending up feeling a little empty at the end of the trip but now Paris is like coming come for me and that just never seems like an expense at all.

April can%26#39;t come too soon for me now.

Yikes!

I remember the good ol%26#39; days when it was about 7.5 francs to the dollar, then about 1.12 euros to the dollar. I was staying in those fancy 4 star-luxe hotels.

Anyway, you can still get a decent 2-star hotel for about 100 euros a night and eat at Chartier for about 20 euros.

C%26#39;est la vie!

I remembered going in 2002, and the dollar was very strong. I miss that, but at least you can still get a lot of deals in Europe. It was around 1.28 maybe when we went in September, and we did well even so.
