Eating out

We will be staying in the Invalides area and would like some suggestions of places to eat in the evening - not expensive!

Also recommendations for cafes/lunches near the usual tourist spots.

Thanks

There are too many %26#39;tourist spots%26#39; to start naming possible options!

Plenty of choices in the 7th:

- from the Paris pages on this site:

Café Constant - Casual. Great food. Get the “flotante” for dessert. On rue St. Dominique near Champs du Mars and Rue Cler. 110 euro for two.

Fontaine du Mars - Also on Rue St. Dominique (near the Eiffel Tower). Excellent food, English menu for those who need it, friendly service.

La Terrace at Ecole Militaire was once of my fave cafes in that neighborhood, but they had a lil%26#39; fire and will be closed until Dec.

Le Sancerre on Rapp is an old world wine bar with killer omelettes.

Vin sur Vin is a very popular local restau in that area.

L%26#39;Affriole is another popular restau not too far away.

Not expensive is a very relative term. The cafe/bars will be cheaper than a restau. for a meal. To really save bucks, head to rue Cler and make yourself a gourmet picnic.

What are the best neighborhoods in Paris to eat dinner? We are staying at the Westin (near the Tulliares gardens).

We tried Le Basilic this summer--lovely and charming, food good. and service warm. I forget the street?? It is next to a church and a small park--close Rue de Varenne (we stayed at the Hotel de Varenne) My sense is this is a reasonbly priced place for dinner in Paris.

Most of Paris you can get a decent meal for not very much money. Only place I would avoid is most of the restaurants in and around Rue de la Huchette.

As a rule (but not exclusively) these places are tourist traps. They also have a reputation amongst Parisians for not being terribly clean. Not for nothings are they referred to as %26quot;la ruelle de la bactérie%26quot;

In the 7th, you should try:

Le P%26#39;tit Troquet on the Rue de L%26#39;Exposition (30 euro menu) : cute, small, excellent food, wonderful quality/ price ratio

Le Florimond (around 30 euro menu): very much like Le PT.

La Ferme St. Simon (a bit pricier than the others)
