black/white/gray flags outside Louvre

Can anyone shed any light on why the flags of the countries of the world are not in color outside the Louvre? My husband and I were there in late October and were surprised to see them without their normal colors. Thanks.

What you saw was a work of art- part of the Museum%26#39;s collection. I%26#39;m sorry that I can%26#39;t recall who the artist is or anything more about it- but I%26#39;m sure someone else who visits this Forum will be able to tell you more.

Thanks Lulutoo! At least that helps to explain it!

My memory is so bad- for some reason, I want to say the work is simply titled%26quot; Flags of the World in Black and White%26quot; but when I Google that nothing comes up! Perhaps this will bump it back up to page one and someone will help both of us out- now that I%26#39;m trying to recall it ( and the artist) I%26#39;m so frustrated! I guess I%26#39;ll just have to come back to Paris and refresh my memory!!!!
