Arrondissements Street Maps

I want to get hold of the Arrondissement streeet maps, the ones you see displayed on large boards occassionally with a slot for coins to purchase.

Never trusted these to try, but just visited the tourist offices at Louvre and the main one by Pyramides and they just had a couple of the outlying arrondissements maps. The man at the tourist office said I had to visit the town hall of the particular arrondissement to get the map.

Has anyone used one of the map dispensers in the street and received the map or been able to to get the maps from elsewhere.

I%26#39;m after Arrondissments 1 %26amp; 9

Now I%26#39;m truly intrigued... been to Paris numerous times and never noticed large boards with maps sold by coin slot. I must know more!

It sounds like these maps would have extreme level of detail... what do you use them for? Do you have other arrondissements?

What kind of publisher information is printed on the map? That might be useful for tracking them down.

I%26#39;m interested to know too ; i live in Paris since over 20 years and have never seen those %26quot;maps dispensers%26quot;.

I have seen coins slots along maps boards but they are for getting prrinted itineraries (you enter your point A and your point B and get a printed sheet (like a supermarket bill - with a detailed itinerary)

I too have never seen these vendingmachines (?) - but IMO the ultimate arrondissment-map is the little pocket book %26quot;Plan de Paris par arrondissement - L%26#39;Indispensable%26quot; - 14 x 9 cm, so it will fit into your jacket pocket. it will never let you down, trust me. Can be bought in bookshops all over Paris, but also with www.fnac.com

Search for %26quot;L%26#39;Indispensable%26quot; - choose the %26quot;relié%26quot;-version for a more solid leathercover - price about 7 euro. A lifetime investment -especially if you by the version with %26quot;29 plans de la proche banlieue%26quot;- showing maps of CDG airport, La Défense, St. Dénis, Boulogne Forest etc. etc. etc.

What you need is L%26#39;Indispensable. I am using the 3 plans par arrondissement one (one for streets, one for ùmétro and one for buses). It is not as bulky as the Paris par arrondissement model and sells for about 7 euro. I got mine at Galeries Lafayette since newspaper outlets did not have that one in my area.

The maps in question are very detailed to a very lage scale, there are two maps for each arrondissement. (One on either side of the street board).

One side is called %26quot;Histoire de Paris%26quot; and show the position of even the most obscure historical monument, museum etc. The other map is called %26quot;Informations Touristiques et Hoteliers%26quot; and shows every hotel, residence and all Metro stops, parking places and taxi stands.

If you%26#39;re travelling along the main roads of Paris keep an eye open for them on the side of the road

|||

Well, i know those big boards, there is one just down my street, but i have never seen a map dispenser

|||

Go to amazon and get a copy of the Paris Mapguide.

|||

It won%26#39;t help to suggest map books - we have all those - this is a whole %26#39;nother thing! (only %26#39;mapaholics%26#39; need apply).

The Paris tourist office site also mentions these map dispensers:

Where do I find a Paris map?

Free maps are available at ticket offices in the metro, in the department stores and at all the information points of the Paris Convention and Visitors Bureau.

***Maps of each “arrondissement” are also available from vending machines in each area*** - you have to pay for them, but they are very detailed. Public transport maps of all shapes and sizes will be given to you free of charge at ticket offices des stations, and at all the information points of the Paris Convention and Visitors Bureau.

sounds excellent. now i want to know also. can anyone help?

Hello,

We use a few maps given free at several places. ....just the regular fold up type which cover all 20 arrondissments. Some are better than others for every little street but most are very very good. ( We are often looking for some obscure street). You can get them free at Printemps, the metro, tourist boards etc. They also have metro/RER routes and bus routes on separate inserts and have most of the museums noted. They are just %26quot;Paris%26quot; maps but cover all the arrondissements and a little of the outlying areas.

We were given a soft cover bound book with each arrondissment in larger detail for a Christmas present. It was purchased in one of the big book stores here in the States but it is just too big to use much. You might try looking in Boarders or another big book store. We also have detailed maps we have purchased in Paris which are excellent too.

I have not seen dispensers for a specific district either.

Could I ask why you want a map for just a small area?
