Interested mostly at Gare du Norde D %26amp; B lines (RER and Metro) Line 1- Chatelet, Musee du Louvre) , Station at Charles de Gaulle

Paris metro and train system is not all that friendly to the handicap.... I know I also am handicapped and I travel to France often.
Paris is getting better but it is taking a while.
There are very few with elavators and escalators and those that do are often out of working order. There are many stairs and several levels to manage that would be difficult with a walker.
I believe line %26quot;14 was one that was supposed to be the best but even it had a non-working elevators last summer.
I would use the buses and the taxis for a better way of getting around Paris.

In the search box at the top of this thread if you type in the words %26quot; Metro Handicap%26quot; or %26quot;Handicap%26quot; you will find lots of threads to read.
Make sure you bring handicap ID and note from doctor saying he is 100% handicapped according to USA standards and certain museums allow free or reduced rate entrance for both you and your hubby. Even the Eiffel tower you do not have to wait in line if you are handicapped ..... go to the front of the line .... they will only let your husband go as far as the second level at a reduced rate but you may accompany him but go to the top while he waits for you at the second level. ( You also avoid the long line.)

The buses are fun and the network is quite dense. Ask for a %26#39;grand plan%26#39; when you buy your tickets (or pass). The metro will involve a lot of walking even if there is an elevator, especially if you have to make a transfer.
Most mapbooks will have a blue T to indicate the location of the taxi stands.

You can get a wheelchair and also a handicap/stroller map at the Louvre Museum. Many other museums also allow one to leave ID and use a wheelchair free of charge.

Paris in general is very unfriendly to the physically handicapped IMO. Although many buildings are equipped with elevators, getting INSIDE can require many stairs be climbed. Metro stations, in general, have lots of stairs, long corridors to walk to exit and very narrow automatic exit doors. Stick to busses as Discover suggests and taxis.

The metro is the worst for those with limited mobility. I strongly recommend that you get a mop of the buses system and stick to buses.

It%26#39;s good to remember that most of the system was designed and built between 1900 and 1930, and disabilities weren%26#39;t a concern at that time. The same can be said of other metro systems, like New York.
Line 14 was indeed built with full accessibility, but it%26#39;s one line only...
Most buses in Paris are now of the low-floor type with an electric ramp at the bottomof the rear door.
