We are heading to Paris in September. It is just one way as we are coming back on a cruise (transatlantic). The cheapest airfare by far is Air India EWR-CDG for $290 o/w. It is an overnight flight. I have heard people talk about how terrible it is but I have not heard anyone say that they have ever flown with them. If you have, especially the Newark-Paris flight, please post!

Actually, no... But these people have flown Paris Newark but you have to understand a little french:

I have never flown Air India, but I did see the crew of one of their aircraft in my terminal on November 20th when I flew home from Paris. I don%26#39;t know how the flights are, but the crew looked fabulous. The pilots had these beautifully pressed uniforms and the flight attendants had matching saris. They were all elegantly groomed and looked beautiful. If the service and flights are anywhere near the way the crew looked, then it%26#39;s probably great! All of us waiting for the flight to the States in the terminal were commenting on how fabulous they looked compared to the polyester enslaved crews on the US carriers!

I was in Paris last year and I was flying home to JFK on American Airlines and my friend was flying home to Newark from Paris on the same day on Air India. The weather was a problem in the Northeast US and both flights were cancelled.
American essentially told me I was out of luck and they would put me on the next available flight, the next day. Air India put my friend up overnight in Paris, gave her 300 euros in cash, and put her out 1st class the next day.

Well, Pixfield, I guess that says it all! Thank you for restoring an - apparently wrongly - stained reputation.
|||
And the crews LOOK great too... I couldn%26#39;t resist, Mascara:):)

The flight attendants were indeed beautiful!
The thing about airlines is that they are inconsistent. You can fly the same airline five times in one month and have five totally different experiences. The bottom line is that commercial airline travel is public transportation, so you have to be ready for anything.

I have flown Air India on a 747, London Delhi, so not trans-atlantic
but I can%26#39;t see it being hugely different.
IMO the crew sum up my experience of the indian people , generalising of course. Extremely professional, well presented, extremely courteous and polite.
The downside was I felt the seat pitch was smaller that I%26#39;ve had on other airlines but I may be wrong and you can check with the airline to be sure before booking. I%26#39;m also not sure of their track record for delays - we had a 4 hour delay. Again I%26#39;m sure that can be checked through Skytrax etc.
A possible issue depending on sensitivities was the food.
The food was great IMO however may not be to all tastes as they served some quite spicy local food (as you%26#39;d expect maybe?).
Possibly there is a choice but I never checked and possibly the food across the atlantic might be different.
Oh, if the food is the same there are consequences to a few hundred people eating curry or spiced food and sitting together for 8 hours! :-)
Not conclusive I%26#39;m afraid but a few thoughts for you. Stoofer.

Pixfield
Hi, thanks for the tip, I%26#39;ve saved this for future reference.
Unless it%26#39;s me, it doesn%26#39;t appear to cover Air India, most useful nonetheless :-)
Regards, Stoofer.
