help finding a great breakfast place

Hi

We were in Paris a few years ago and had breakfast every morning in this great coffee/ pastry/ sandwich restaurant on a main strreet not far from The Tulerie Gardens, an inexpensive department store and with in walking distance of the marais area. I believe this restaurant is part of a chain. The self serve restaurant ran a breakfast special which included 2 croissants or pastries, yogurt, coffee and maybe juice too. It was a really good buy. If any can knows the name the place and the name of the street it is on, I%26#39;d be grateful.

Thanks,

Beth

Just guessing, but could that %26#39;main street%26#39; be the rue Rivoli, the inexpensive department store BHV, and the restaurant %26quot;La Brioche Dorée%26quot;? They have restaurants all over Paris (about 300 in France), also several on the Rue Rivoli.

The term %26quot;self-service%26quot; that you used makes me think of Flunch -

www.flunchtour.com/tourisme/uk/entree.html

There are 3 of them in Paris:

5-7 RUE P. LESCOT - FORUM DES HALLES 75001 PARIS

21 RUE DE BEAUBOURG 75003 PARIS

and one further north:

1-3 RUE CAULAINCOURT 75018 PARIS

The menu says:

for 4.90E:

Big hot drink

Croissant

Pain au chocolat

Fruit juice 33cl

Bread

Butter

Jam

Plain yoghurt

for 7.90E:

Big hot drink

Eggs and bacon

Fruit juice 33cl

Ham + cheese

Bread

Butter

Jam

Plain yoghurt

I am interested in the Flunch place... Does anyone have any experience with this restaurant? We are taking our 3 teenagers to Paris in June, and this looks like an amazing deal for breakfast and for lunch or dinner. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

I%26#39;ve eaten (dinner) a few times in the Flunch at Les Halles (rue Lescot) and rue Caulaincourt - the latter is smaller and definitely not as good. The Flunch at Les Halles offers a lot more choice and is bigger.

The food is simple but not expensive, probably comparable to what you would get in (French) company restaurants or on a campus.

Personally I found it a bit confusing (at first) to find out where to get what - you basically just grab a tray and cutlery at the entrance, and take what you like and pay, but some items on the menu you need to pay first and then go to a separate counter, show them your ticket and for example, tell them whether you want it %26#39;a point%26#39;, %26#39;saignant%26#39;, etc.

I%26#39;m not sure if everyone (or anyone) there speaks english, the place seems to target a french audience more than tourists.

It%26#39;s been a while but we ate dinner at the les Halles location a couple of times... it%26#39;s like a %26#39;cafeteria%26#39; for the most part, salad bar, fruit bar, then a grill for meats and fries... beverage dispenser.... take tray to the cashier to pay, then go sit down. Lots of families in there. The food is edible (not haut cuisine but not Quick either), and you can get a lot of variety and salads/veggies if you%26#39;re feeling like you%26#39;ve been chugging too much meat/bread during your visit.
