My husband and I, and another couple are going to Paris this summer. None of us have been before. I started researching where we should stay...needless to say it has been overwhelming. We plan to be in Paris for only 3 days and do not want to rush to see %26quot;everything%26quot;. We want to be close enough to great food and nightlife, but we also plan to visit museums during the day. Average price for hotel about $200/day. Any suggestions???

Hi
I have made an interactive Google map of Paris on http://gardkarlsen.com/paris_france_map.htm that might be useful. I have marked some of the main attraction and there is a bit of information about each marker. I have also marked the restaurants that we went to. Get in touch if you have any questions :-)
Regards
Gard

Bubilee, the best thing you can do is read these forums, go back at least 3 or 4 pages and just read, read, read. Then do a %26quot;search%26quot; on topics of particular interest to you, there have been tons of excellants threads on these boards with very helpful advice.
I booked two hotels in Paris using the reviews on this site, and both were very good.
First thing you need to do is look at a map of Paris. Not a complicated one, just a simple one that highlights the main tourist sites. That will help to get an idea of the area you would like to stay in. Most people like to be closer to the river, and most tourist sites( the basic ones) are between the Effiel Tower in the south and Notre Dame in the north, this is very approximite.
Paris is divided into %26quot;arrondissmonts%26quot; which are neighborhoods. Many with their own flavor and atmosphere.
Most first timers in Paris like 1st, 2nd, 4th, 5th 6th , and 7th and 9th. There are many excellant choices in the other arrondissmonts also, but we are trying to narrow it down.
Every Parisian address has a zipcode, the last two numerals tell you which arrondissmont you are in, so when researching a hotel look at the zipcode.
Anyways , keep readiing and keep asking questions. Be specific with your likes, and dislikes and I am sure you will get many good ideas here.
PS. THREE DAYS ais very short! Can%26#39;t you squeeze out a day or two more. !!?

Wow, great map gard! Fabulous...wonderful! Wow-ow-ow!
Bubilee, $200 euro or $200 US dollars? I%26#39;m not sure what you mean. My favourite place to stay is on the left bank 5e, 6e in the Latin Quarter...near Blvd St Germaine ...between that and the river and on either side of St Michel BVoulevard. My favourite area is the left bank between where ythe Louvre and the Notr Dame are. There are lovely streets, restaurants and tiny little shops and cobbled streets. The Louvre, the Notre Dame, the Champs Elyse - tis all walkable from there and I love it.

Bubilee,
You have received some excellent advise from
previous posters. Joan 1 has laid it out well
for you.
I have been to and photographed Paris 5 times
for my upcoming book. You can imagine some
of the jouneys on foot that I have taken.
You really need to narrow down and priortitize
what you want to see.
It takes years (if not longer) to see %26quot;everything%26quot;.
Research out information and plot it on
a good Paris map. Hotel should
have priority and then places to visit.
Figure out the order for each day so
you do not backtrack.
Remember to stop at cafes,
watch the world go by, breathe
deeply and smell the roses
(or whatever is blooming at the time).
If you rush you will probably miss
most of what you have seen.
Best Wishes

Thank you all for your advice...the map was wonderful! All of your input made me realize that I should not try to squeeze in too many places at once. I am just so excited to see all of Europe, but after my search and some of your input, I realized that this trip will be Italy and Greece and the next one will have to ONLY be Paris.
Thanks again!
