Provence - itinerary and New Year's Day

I%26#39;m finalising the Provence portion of our Dec trip and just realised I really bungled the dates with too little time in Provence over New Year%26#39;s period. And booked TGV trips from Paris to Dijon and on to Avignon without cancellation option so can%26#39;t change dates!

Any case, as a very short overview we arrive in Avignon day 1 - planning to see Pont du Gard, drive to St Remy where we stay and explore village (Saturday).

Day 2 - Sunday market at Isle/Sorgue and maybe one or two Luberon villages.

Day 3 - New Year%26#39;s day (Monday)- have no clue what to do??? Assuming everything will be closed. Any suggestions to a possible scenic drive for the day?

Day 4 - More Luberon villages

Day 5 - St. Remy market in the morning, Arles for the rest of the day

Day 6 - Les Baux in the morning - drive to Nice for next leg of trip

My questions are basically this -

1) I would really like to see Aix en Provence and feel like I must see Avignon, but there is not enough time and adequate %26quot;open%26quot; days. Am I making a big mistake? The impression I have from a number of posts is that it is better to miss the large cities if pressed for time, especially if your first time in Provence

2) Any suggestions for New Year%26#39;s day?

3) General critique on itinerary?

Thanks a lot, and for all the help I received in previous posts!

Thanks Wilko1

I%26#39;m not making a big mistake to miss Avignon or Aix en Provence?

Any other suggestions for New Year%26#39;s Day?

Thanks

Hi Iris

On NYDay you could visit Avignon, there will be restaurants open so you could traet your self to a mega lunch, tho I would book it up. Personally i would eat at Hotel d%26#39; Europe 0490 14 76 76 tho others may argue for Christian Etienne or Hotel Mirande, beautiful hotel.

You could then drive to Aix, via the motorway around 1 hour.

Bon app!

Hi Wilko

I feel like a idiot for not thinking about that! Regard 1 Jan as a day off and just leisurely drive/walk through the two cities - and at least get some (limited) sightseeing in there.

Thanks for the lunch advise, will definitely follow up.

I agree with Wilko%26#39;s suggestion on restaurants. Do book them early though and bring a nice thick wallet.

No matter which one you choose, it will be a memorable experience.

I personally would not leave there and drive to Aix - too much after having such a big lunch. Just MHO.
