Where to stay close to christmas market and/or eurostar?

Hello, am coming to Lille in December, along with my 3yr old, predominantly to see the christmas market. Can you recommend somewhere to stay that would be close to the market and/or the eurostar terminal. Failing that, could someone tell me exactly where the market is held so I can look into it a little easier? Thanks in advance

Having been to the Christmas Market in Lille last year (and having stayed over xmas) I would suggest you prepare yourself to be disappointed. None of the items on sale are terribly inspiring, and are really only just one level up from tat.

The Eurostar Station is about 1 mile from the market (certainly no more than a 20 minute walk) and the Market itself is in Place Rihour

Hotels do get very booked up at the time of the Christmas market, so decide on one as soon as possible.

Something around the Opera would be good, which is within walking distance of the Eurostar station Lille-Europe. (NB there%26#39;s another station Lille-Flanderes, which is not the Eurostar one!).

Exactly which depends on your budget. There%26#39;s the Mercure Opera, or down the scale a bit there%26#39;s the Comfort Inn, both tucked away behind the opera so out of the main squares. There are also a couple of Ibis hotels near the town centre, one in Old Lille (pretty streets to north of main squares), and the other possibly on Rue de Paris?

I agree with the above, that the Christmas market is pretty full of tat. It%26#39;s little chalets crammed into Place Rihour. Nice smell of mulled wine though. There%26#39;s a big wheel and a sort of Santa%26#39;s grotto thing in the adjoining, biggest square (Place de Gaulle, or Grand%26#39;Place).

Prettier by far is to walk around the picturesque streets of Old Lille, with quaint shops and pretty white lights everywhere.

Angela.

PS There%26#39;s quite a sweet zoo in Lille, that your 3 year-old might like. Open daily, free.

the christmas market is just off the town square. a ten minute walk from the eurostar terminal. walk straight out of the terminal past euralille and the gare lille flandres. turn right down the rue de faidherbe and walk a couple of blocks and your at the grand place.

on your left you will see the main ferris wheel and rides and just past that is the christmas market....little alpine looking huts.

as for hotel, it depends on your budget but the lille europe is right near the eurostar station. nothing is too far in the main square....although with a three year old?? if you have a stroller, you should be set.

Hi!! I went to Lille this weekend with friends, and we were VERY dissapointed in the Christmas Market. I have been to many markets in Germany, Cologne, Berlin, and they were huge, and there were masses of booths. The one in Lille is small compared, and the only thing I bought was a hat........very good hat stall, for the price, really different.! The big wheel and the Christmas display is quite sweet, but you could not spend a day looking at it! The shops and streets are pretty and I have backache from all the walking.

I would give Lille the thumbs down for the market, and their cathedral is not much cop either! Sorry!
