Just back!! Can I help anyone??

Hi everybody,

Firstly a big thank you to everyone who helped with my queries!

My partner %26amp; I went to Paris on Saturday (18/11) and returned on Tuesday.

It was our 1st time in Paris and we absolutely loved it, it is a fabulous city and in our opinion the best in Europe!

We booked the Hotel Academie, in the Saint Germain Area, for our 3 night stay. When we arrived the manager said there had been a leak that had affected 3 rooms and they didn’t have a room for us on our 1st night, so they sent us by taxi to their other hotel near the Place de Concorde, it was the Hotel Ministere, and arranged to pay our taxi back the next day and upgraded us to an executive suite.

Both hotels were fine, although be warned the walls are like paper! On our 1st night we were rudely woken at 3.20am by what sounded like that scene from when Harry met Sally – you know what I mean!!

We visited the Eiffel tower %26amp; went to the top. It’s worth the wait! We also climbed the many stairs of the Arc de Triumph, I was surprised by how big the arc is. It was impressive. We spent some time in the Louvre museum – seen the Mona Lisa. And finally Notre Dame, which we went to at night. It beautiful all lit up and quite spooky too!

Paris is a wonderful city and we felt very safe wandering the streets at night.

We also enjoyed the shopping! We ate well, drank well, saw the sights and relaxed!

All in all it was a lovely long romantic weekend.

If anyone has any questions Im happy to help.

The only bad point was the journey back to the airport and the Easyjet check-in staff!

When we arrived in Paris we got the train %26amp; metro, but we decided to get a taxi to the airport incase we missed a train or something stupid.

So we left at 16.10, but there were 5 accidents on the way! Our check-in closed at 17.50, we arrived by the skin of our teeth at 17.49!!

Then the Easyjet staff refused to put my wine in the hold! Obviously because of the liquids restrictions we couldn’t take it as hand luggage! I was furious with them, they kept saying it is forbidden, it is forbidden! I told them I had liquids in my suitcase and that the restriction was on hand luggage not hold luggage, but still the swine refused!

We had spent quite a lot of money on good wine and couldn’t afford to just throw it away, although I’m sure it wasn’t thrown away, the swine will have taken it home for themselves!!

Yes maybe you can help me, I asked this question on some other thread but didn%26#39;t get any response... How much were your pain au chocolat??

Glad you enjoyed your first time in Paris, though I hope you didn%26#39;t beleive the lie of the room being flodded, they were simply overbooked and therefore had to find you another accomodation, the last week and week end were really busy!

|||

Maybe you can Pauline 1. Did y%26#39;all eat genuine French cuisine? If so where and was it good?

|||

No of course I didnt believe them about there being a leak, but we didnt mind because we got to stay in 2 different areas.

I will get back to you with names and streets of places we ate I cant remember them all at the minute.

We mostly ate steak! Which mostly comes from Ireland!!

My partner had snails he said they were quite good, that was in a nice little place I think it was called Jardins, it was off St Germain blvd.

A place I highly recommend is Resturant L%26#39;Absinthe, Place du Marche, St Honore. The food was excellent! And of course we tried a few absinthe too.

|||

Oh Pain au chocolate, didnt eat any myself but they are about €5 depends where you go of course!

|||

I was just kidding Pauline ;) though for 5 Euros I hope there were gold bars instead of chocolate bars!

|||

Wow, if you paid 5 euros for a pain au chocolat, you seriously got ripped off! They%26#39;re avaialable in any neighborhood bakery for less than 2 euros.

|||

Glad you enjoyed yourselves, but you can%26#39;t really seriously think Paris is better than Belfast — or can you? :-)

As for the pain au chocolat thing, you can get two croissants AND a pain au chocolat for less than 5€ in e.g. Au Levain du Marais, one of the better, if not best, boulangeries in Paris.

Not a patch on a good sodie farl though....

|||

for that reason exactly, we only bought wine at the duty free, although more expensive than what you can get elsewhere in Paris. Didn%26#39;t want to be told to leave it at check in (BA).

There shouldn%26#39;t have be any problem with sending it in the hold, you should complain to Easyjet!

Pauline - First of all, I%26#39;d like to say that I like the title of your post. Second, we too stayed in the Hotel du Ministere in 2004, and we found it to be quite satisfactory. Therefore, it surprises me that its ratings on TA aren%26#39;t particularly good.
