Inexpensive Hotels/Hostels in Montparnasse area in January

We are a couple traveling to Paris the first week of January, and seek recommendations on a decent place to stay for about 4 days. We%26#39;d like to stay in the Montparnasse area, as we have friend who lives in that area, so we%26#39;d like to be close for dinners out with him. All we need is a clean, safe place, prefer about 50 to 75 euros, that we will really only spend time in for sleeping. Are there any decent hostels in the Montparnasse area, or are we best to secure a hotel? Also, are prices different on the European sites? We checked the Etap hotels site, and prices were about 50 euros a night, and when we checked other sites (US based), rates for same hotels were over 100 euros? Etap seems fine to us, but we could not decifer which Etap hotel might be near Montparnasse. Thanks for any suggestions!!

Etap hotels are very basic. They tend to be on the outskirts of cities and Paris is no exception - only a couple of those listed on Etap%26#39;s website are within the city proper neither is near Montparnasse.

they are offering the ALESIA MONTPARNASSE for 68 Euros. I don%26#39;t know anything about the place but it%26#39;s a start.

Hope you have fun

If you like the look of Etap then Ibis is the next step up on the Accor group properties.

Try Timhotel in Montparnasse in front of the tower and near the train station, not expensive (about €80 per room), nice room above if renovated on higher floor.
