Hi,
Will be shopping in Paris for their designer goods and I understand that only after claiming the VAT refund will I really get a cheaper deal than my home country i.e. Singapore. : )
Is there a standard VAT on most designer clothes and bags?
Wondering if VAT refund is claimable in all airports in France? How about train stations? What are the things to look out for to minimise inconveniences?
Thks in advance for any advice.

Different shops handle the refund differently but it is widely available. You must present the items purchased and the paperwork from the shop to the VAT officials at the airport when leaving France. Plan on doing this as soon as you arrive at the airport adding 30 minutes or more for the process. (The lines and time this takes vary; plan for the worst case) You will mail the stamped receipts in a pre addressed envelope and receive your refund (usually a credit on your credit card) some weeks later.
The vendor can give you more details at the time of purchase.

you stamp the VAT refund voucher when you leave the EU. So whatever airport you are leaving the EU is where you go through the procedure. You can leave the EU by train only for Switzerland...
