Killing time with luggage in Paris

Any idea about where to store luggage for several hours in the centre of Paris? We arrive 6am and can%26#39;t check in till 2pm and we can%26#39;t drop off our luggage earlier. Wouldn%26#39;t normally be a problem but there are seven of us (five teenagers) and it will be the middle of winter which means hanging out in a park might be a bit cold. Also we%26#39;d like to do visit a few things before we check in. Any suggestions?

Many thanks.

I%26#39;m a bit surprised that you %26quot;can%26#39;t drop off your luggage%26quot; at your accomodation even though it will be too early to check in- I had always assumed that all hotels permitted this? That would certainly make your situation a great deal easier!

As noted, I to am a little surprised that your hotel won%26#39;t store you luggage for you until check-in....but in the absence of this hotel provided courtesy, you can use the Les Consignes (Left Luggage) facitities at those SNCF train station(s) most convenient to your hotel--Gare du Nord, Gare Montparnasse, Gare de Lyon, Gare d%26#39;Austerlitz. The rate for automatic luggage lockers are approx. 3,40 €...5,00€ %26amp; 7,00€ .....depending on the sizes of locker and bags, may accept more than one bag.

But I%26#39;d be inclined to contact your hotel again and ask about luggage storage until check-in......or....have the kids draw straws to see which one sits in the park with the luggage, hat, scarf and a thermos of hot chocolate. What are %26#39;..elves.. for if not this?

Personally, if you have checked with your hotel and they wont let you leave the bags there until you check in (or if they say the bags would not be secure if you did), I would use the left luggage facilities downstairs from the Eurostar entrance at Gare du Nord. It was secure and twi medium sized suitcases fitted easily into a 7 Euro locker. It is not cheap but you have 5-6 hours (assuming you fly in, 8 if you are arriving by Eurostar) so it is worth it not to waste that time sitting around suitcases.

There are more details than you need on how to use the facilities at Gare du Nord on this thread

If it is a small independent hotel, there simply may not be enough space anywhere to store all the bags that 7 people would leave (plus anyone else who asked).

In addition to the lockers at Nord, Lyon, Austerlitz and Montparnasse, there are also left luggage facilities with an attendant at least at Lyon and Montparnasse. Not sure about Nord and Austerlitz. If you do have to leave your luggage somewhere, which of these stations would work best depends on where you are coming from (CDG?) and where you are staying.

Incidentally I think KDK%26#39;s prices for a locker rental are a bit out-of-date. The last prices i have are 4€, 7€ and 9€50 for the three different sizes of locker.

Hey KP --

Did you ask specifically if the hotel has a baggage room in which to leave your luggage? I have had folks misunderstand and think that I was asking to leave my luggage in the room that I was too early to check into.

Good luck.

Wow you guys are great...thanks for the advice. We are renting apartments and I%26#39;ve already asked about luggage storage, but they don%26#39;t have any facilities. I%26#39;ll take up the Gare de Nord option so thanks for the suggestion....Cheers
