Is Rue Berthollet Paris a good location

I am a mum planning a 7 week holiday. I arrive in London mid December and am travelling to lots of places:London,Lisbon, Fes, Marrakech, Brittany, Dublin, Prague, Budapest, Paris. I will be in Paris next month and have found an apartment in Rue Berthollet. Is this a good location to stay and get around and getting to and from the airport. Any suggestions.

Hi Zansue, one of the local participants on this forum called Raphy (although she does not post much these days) lives on Bd de Port Royal near the corner of rue Berthollet and on a couple of ofher posts

Here is a post that mentions some of the food shops nearby:

The flat is pretty well equidistant (about 300m) between Gobelins metro (line 7 near Place d%26#39;Italie%26quot; and the Port Royal Metro which is on the RER line B that is the main rail link to both CDG and Orly airports. Depending on the ages of your children, taking the RER line B and rolling the bags to the flat would be the simplest method of getting to the flat, particularly if the metro elevators and escalators at Port Royal Metro are functioning. If you are arriving at Orly, it could be worth just grabbing a cab to the flat because it is much closer than CDG and you probably would not pay much more than 20 Euros - but that depends how many there are in your party and how much luggage. Otherwise the usual guesstimate for a cab from CDG is 50 to 60 Euros.

You are quite close (400 - 500 m) to the Luxembourg Gardens in th emiddle of I like the area of the Latin Quarter that is just north of Bd de Port Royal near Gobelins metro near the southern end of rue Monge and rue Mouffetard and St Medard church, where there are good food shops and a market on at least some days of the week. If you do a search of the forum for %26quot;Gobelins%26quot; you will bring up a few interesting threads. The street runs along the side of a huge hospital called Val de Grace and is close to many buildings associated with the University. If you do a search of %26quot;Val de Grace%26quot; you will bring up more information on the area. I believe there are a number of useful bus services that go along Bd de Port Royal.

The last time I was in Paris I went for a stroll in Square Rene le Gall on the southern side (turn Avenue des Gobelins into rue de Croulebarbe beside the Manufacture des Gobelines building) and it would be a great place to take your children to play if they are young. Luxembourg Gardens are also nearby but the atmosphere at Square Rene le Gall was very relaxed.

Yes it is just next to where i live and i love the place. Five minutes walk from Rue Mouffetard (market and restaurants, quaint street), five minutes from Gobelins (metro line 7), and ten minutes walk to RER Port Royal, direct to the airport . Also very safe at night...

Hi Zansue,

I stayed in a hotel on Rue Berthollet 4 years ago with my then 17 year old daughter. We liked the area. There were plenty of places to eat even though we were there in August. It was near the Pantheon and not too far to walk to the river and Notre Dame or to Jardins Luxembourg. The weather was extremely hot but we discovered the Batobus for getting around which was brilliant.

There are 2 metro stations within easy walking distance and it felt a very safe area.

On the Friday night we were returning to the hotel about 11.00pm and saw a lot of police at the end of the street. We naturally thought something bad had occurred but discovered the police were just holding up the traffic to let hundreds of roller skaters and cyclists pass through!

We got the RER from CDG to Port Royal and it took about 10 minutes to walk to Rue Berthollet with our cases.
