Hi
My husband and myself are in our 50s and have 3 weeks in France in May 2007.
We have decided to take a canal trip (with friends) in the MIdi for 1 week, and will then have two more weeks to explore leisurely. We like the idea of basing ourselves in one village and taking day trips to points of interest. We will of course have a car.
I thought perhaps one base somewhere like St Remy ,and then another further East on the coast perhaps. We will more than likely have friends with us, and so accommodation should be able to sleep 4-5.
At this stage I am completely open to any suggestions!
We would favour taking either a house or apartment, but do not discount B%26amp;Bs.
Thank you
** Any suggestions re the canal trip would also be appreciated**

We stayed for a week in Usez and rented a townhouse through Australian owners: here is their website:
http://www.frenchcottages.com/
It is a lovely town with lots of nice places to eat, shop, and a beautiful weekly market. It is near the Pont du Gard - which has a terrific museum as well (at the Pont). You can easily get to Arles (which ewe liked v much), Avignon etc from Usez. Next year we are staying further east at Villefranche sur Mer - there are quite a few comments about this town on TA. The Australian owners were very good to deal with, we also rented a place in Monpazier from them. They own restaurant in Carlton (Melbourne), the accomodation is not %26quot;glitzy%26quot;, but fine and well located.

thanks jeanettemary. Your lodgings looked great. I will certainly do some research there - excellent, and a downunder contact also

Hi
i think that you will find Uzes to be a little out of the way. You would be bvetter off more centrally placed ie furhter east. Check out B%26amp;Bs in the Luberon, there are a number with english speaking hosts which are close to the A7 to access Provence.

kkbelle, I will check the forum again - so please ask any more questions, as I am happy to help if I can. Although Monpazier is not in an area in which you were interested, this is also worth considering - a truly beautiful area, and many, many day trips to do from that spot. It is lovely little bastide town. The people also own a place in Chinon in the Loire - I haven%26#39;t stayed at that one, but have heard good reports from friends who have.
