Bayeux / D Day Beaches/ Mt St Michel

I would appreciate suggestions or comments on the following:

My son %26amp; I will be in Paris in early January. I would like to see the D Day beaches %26amp; Mt St Michel. Is it too much to catch a morning train out of Paris to Bayeux and see the D Day beaches that day via an organized tour (Victory Tours?). That night we%26#39;d stay in Bayeux, rent a car the next day, drive to Mt St Michel %26amp; return that night to Paris via train (from where?).

I am crazy to try this?

You can definitely see the highlights of the D Day beaches in one day and see MSM another day. However, it will take some careful planning and scheduling to get it all done.

I know that Joe at La Ducrie can be hired to do personal tours of the D Day beaches. If you stayed at La Ducrie (see ratings for them in TA) he would probably pick you up in Bayeux and start the Normandy tour there. Then you could rent a car for the trip to MSM. Another option would be to rent a car and drive from Paris. However, I think it is about a 3 or 4 hour drive from Paris to Lower Normandy.

In short, it do-able, but you will have some long days.

OhBrian, You might want to email Roel (pronounced %26quot;rule%26quot;) at Victory Tours and ask for some help with your itinerary. We did a half day tour with him and he was kind enough to pick us up in Bayeux, do the tour, and then drop us at the new D-Day museum in Coen. We then caught a cab to the station in Coen and a train back to Paris. It was a long day but pretty uncomplicated. He will certainly have an opinion on how best to do the things you have in mind.
