I thought I would pass this on. This was one of most favorite places in Paris!
This is the best place I went to on my trip for the most wonderful , thick hot chocolate drink ( 5 Euros)and chocolate pastries and carrot cake! %26quot;Saradia%26quot; makes the drinks and bakes also.
The owner ( I forgot her name) also sells a English chocolate cookbook for 35 Euros (?). She( a Puppet Master) has a particular day when she puts on puppet shows for children with show drink and cake for children 8 euros last year.
The decorations are so cute -- puppets and all!
It is closed July 1 until August 15 th.
During this time %26quot; Saradia%26quot; takes over the place and cooks the most wonderful SirLanka food ! It was 12 euros per meal last summer.
La Charlotte deL%26#39;isle 24 rue St.Louis en De Isle 75004

After you go here go across the street to the most lovely neighborhood church- St Louis! It was so beautiful.
L%26#39;Epicerie is one of the best condiment stores. I picked up %26quot;Vinaigre de Miel aux Abricots%26quot; salad dressing. It is on 31 rue St. Louis en I%26#39;Ile. It has jellies and salad dressings and many other gift items.
One can also find right near the here the Chocolate store with a huge fondu chocolate fountain! They sell strawberries and hot chocolate and many other tempting sweets.
Both of the two most popular ice cream stores are also right down the block. At %26quot;Berthillion%26quot; ice creamery (which most people love) I got the most awful flavor of ice cream %26quot;rum raisin%26quot;!
Across the street and down the block on the left hand side is a cute little candy and jam/ jelly store. I bought a mall %26quot;La Cuillere Gourdande -- Pomme au Caramel%26quot; jelly that is so tasty.
I loved this area for walking around. There are many wonderful cafes. Stay out of the tourist area and go near the police Motorcycle storage area. I found a neat little gorcery store, and this cute little restaruant called %26quot;Au Vieux Paris d%26quot;Arcole%26quot;.
www.auvieuxparis.fr
The building is ivy covered, and very romantic and cosy looking inside ( rue Chanoinesse). The menu looks great.
They also rent rooms above and next to the restaruant. Information is posted right outside the door. I will look for the web address. I copied it down somewhere.
I love this area because there is so much to %26quot;see and do%26quot;.

Of all the yummy Berthillon flavors, why did you choose rum raisin?

Wanted to try something different! Sure was %26quot; nasty%26quot; at least that is what my taste buds told me!
I did hot chocolate this time! I have to ration my sweet intake
( diabetic)!

I forggot to mention:
cute little restaruant called %26quot;Au Vieux Paris d%26quot;Arcole%26quot;.
www.auvieuxparis.fr
If you make a reservation on the web site you get two free glasses of wine.
They will also take group reservations I think it is up to 50.
They will also arrange for wedding receptions.
They also rent rooms outside of Paris.
Check out the web site!
This place is a little treasure --- lots of photos --- just click it.

I still think that Angelina%26#39;s has the best hot chocolate. Place is touristy but oh the dark, thick, bitter African chocolate more than makes up for that.
Will try La Charlotte next trip as I can not ever get too much chocolate unless it is milk or white. I only like the dark, bitter stuff.
|||
I%26#39;m so glad I%26#39;m not a chocolate addict. Everything else I like has millions of calories.
|||
I adore rum raisin ice cream - especially when it is flavored with rhum agricole de la Martinique and the raisins have been marinated in it for a long time. Mmm... You can also get a very good %26quot;organic%26quot; hot chocolate at the Sunday morning market at Boulevard de Raspail---mmm, dark, rich and not overly sweetened.
|||
Tellurian: I agree with the dark chocolate !!!
You must try the Hot Chocolate at Charlottes!
%26quot; Saradia%26quot; makes it on the spot in the kitchen. She told me that she does not put much sugar in it ( I was concerned being diabetic!). It is wonderful thick to die for!!
Her carrot cake was so good too I met a (young poet) Jennie there and she offered me a taste of her desert! It was so delishhhhhhhh!
The candy molds she uses are from the 1800 %26#39;s.

I think this is my favourite kind of post (maybe next to trip reports...) - just a snippet of something, not in response to a question, but just an observation put out there!
It%26#39;s %26quot;clipped%26quot; and in my file ;-)

Thanks, Discover! I will put it on my (long) list.
