Looking for hotel at the lifts in Chamonix

I am taking my 15 year old son to Chamonix for 5 day%26#39;s of skiing in March. We are both very experienced skiers and have no idea where we should stay . I want to be able to walk almost out the door to the lifts . I would love advice as to where and which hotel we would be happy to stay at.

There are very few hotels that are in walking distance of the main lifts. In the main you get a bus to the lift stations.

In my view, the best place to stay for on the doorstep skiing is Argentiere. If you are good skiers then you will want to ski Les Grands Montet at Argentire.

There is nowhere any more than a 10 minute walk from the lifts but the closest hotel is the Montana a 3 star. This is less than 2 minutes walk away.

But if you want true ski to your door then contact www.grand-roc.com and ask for a studio in Residence La Verte. These are 40 metres away from the lifts and the piste finishes right outside the door. This will be self catering but there is a cafe next door for breakfast and the village has 8 or so restaurants (all good).

Because it%26#39;s quite spread out, like everyone says, there isn%26#39;t much in the way of ski in ski out in Chamonix, and a lot of what there is in in Les Houches, which isn%26#39;t the best area for experienced skiers.

Grands Montets is the most challenging area, from the town of Argentiere, so the Grand Roc or Montana would be good for that - or you could base yourself in Les Praz - the Hotel Eden is very good and a 2 minute walk from the Flegere lift which is one of the sunniest and most varied in the valley

www.chamonet.com/

has good general information...

Hi

We are an hotel located at the bottom of les Grands Montets, the main ski area of Chamonix Valley.

Here is our web site : www.hotel-grands-montets.com

For challenging doorstep skiing Argentiere is the best bet - I always like the Hotel Dahu which is on the main street about 10 mins walk from the lifts. It%26#39;s quite basic but very friendly and warm. There%26#39;s also a free ski-bus. However, be aware that Chamonix is one alpine resort where it really helps to have a car - the areas aren%26#39;t interlinked and although there is a free ski bus it is a bit of a drag.

If you have a car then you also have the option of either staying in Chamonix proper which has a bit more life or driving down there a couple of evenings.
